Perhaps Degas’ most beloved masterpiece: a lone ballerina radiant under stage light, her arabesque floating above the scattered tulle of her tutu, with a shadowy corps de ballet waiting in the wings behind.

Degas painted dancers endlessly — not the glamour of the stage, but the work, the exhaustion and the fleeting moments of grace. “The Star” is the supreme distillation of that obsession, and one of the most iconic images of Impressionism. A luminous centrepiece for any wall.
