Roger Broders’ striking 1930 poster for the Saint-Gervais–Mont-d’Arbois cable car captures the bold optimism of Alpine engineering between the wars. The aerial cableway, opened in 1930, carried skiers and summer visitors from the elegant spa town of Saint-Gervais up to the plateau of Mont-d’Arbois, above Megève.

Broders, the PLM railway’s signature artist, renders the cable car against a sweeping Mont Blanc backdrop with the clean lines and vivid colour that made his Alpine posters among the most sought-after of the twentieth century.
