“La Salle de Bain Idéale” — Raymond Tournon, 1901

“The ideal bathroom” — and in 1901, that was a genuinely modern promise. Raymond Tournon’s poster advertises the turn-of-the-century bathroom as Art Nouveau France imagined it: gleaming fixtures, tiled walls, brass fittings, and light pouring in, a private temple of hygiene and new domestic comfort.

Bathrooms were the luxury technology of the age, and Tournon — a master of the elegant interior scene — sells the dream with soft colours and impeccable draughtsmanship. A delightful print for bathroom walls themselves, powder rooms, and anyone decorating with vintage wit: the ideal bathroom poster, for the ideal bathroom.
