“Jardin Parisien — Orchestre et Théâtre” — 1890

When the great expositions drew the world to Paris, its pleasure gardens bloomed: open-air theatres, bandstands, café-concerts and promenades lit by early electric light. This charming 1890 poster for the Jardin Parisien advertises exactly that world — grand orchestras and theatre under the stars.

Garden entertainment was the heartbeat of Parisian leisure in the Belle Époque, and posters like this one are its most beautiful record. An elegant, period-perfect piece for lovers of Paris, of music, and of evenings that never quite end.
