Fiera di Bolzano — Luis Patsch, 1952

This vibrant 1952 poster by Luis Patsch was created to promote the Fiera di Bolzano (Bolzano Trade Fair), one of the most important commercial and cultural events in Italy’s South Tyrol region. Bolzano — nestled at the confluence of the Alps and the Po Valley — has long been a crossroads of Italian and Austrian culture, and its trade fair reflected that unique dual identity.

Luis Patsch was a graphic artist working in the South Tyrolean tradition, producing work that often blended the clean geometry of Central European modernism with the warm palette of northern Italian commercial art. His posters for the Fiera di Bolzano are considered fine examples of Italian mid-century exhibition and trade fair graphic design.

The Fiera di Bolzano, founded in 1927, grew in the postwar period into a significant showcase for agriculture, industry and craftsmanship from across the Alpine arc. This poster captures the optimism and energy of Italy’s postwar economic recovery.
