“Fête des Narcisses, Montreux, 31 mai – 1er juin 1924, Festival Byron” — Jules Ami Courvoisier, 1924
Every spring the shores of Lake Geneva turned white with narcissi, and Montreux — the pearl of the Swiss Riviera — threw a festival to match. This 1924 poster by Jules Ami Courvoisier advertises the Fête des Narcisses of 31 May and 1 June, staged that year as a Festival Byron in honour of the poet who had made these shores legendary a century before.
Courvoisier sets the scene with classic Swiss-poster clarity: lake, mountain and a cascade of spring blossom, sold to a travelling public hungry for alpine air. A lovely poster for gardeners, lovers of the Swiss Riviera, and collectors of the great between-the-wars resort posters.
