Description
“Abbazia” — Filippo Romoli for ENIT, 1938
Filippo Romoli’s stylish poster for Abbazia (today Opatija, on Croatia’s Adriatic coast) captures the elegance of the Italian Riviera del Carnaro at its glamorous peak. Palms, promenades and turquoise sea are distilled into a crisp, modernist travel image by one of Italy’s finest poster artists.
Published by ENIT, the Italian State Tourist Board, Romoli’s posters turned the Adriatic resorts of the 1930s into bywords for Mediterranean chic — and Abbazia, the “Nice of the Adriatic”, was their brightest star. A wonderful piece for lovers of vintage travel, Adriatic holidays and la dolce vita.
