Invicta Torino – Lucio Venna (1927) | Vintage Italian Advertising Poster

In 1927, the bold and brilliantly inventive Lucio Venna created this striking advertising poster for Invicta Torino — a design that captures the energy and ambition of Italian commercial art in the Fascist-era interwar period, when Turin was at the forefront of Italian industry, design, and modernity. Venna’s graphic language is characteristically dynamic: strong lines, confident colour, and a composition that communicates drive, quality, and the forward momentum of a brand with real confidence in itself.

Lucio Venna — Futurism Meets Commercial Art

Lucio Venna (1897–1974), born Luigi Vennacini in Florence, was one of the most distinctive Italian graphic designers of the interwar period. Strongly influenced by the Futurist movement — with its celebration of speed, modernity, and dynamic energy — Venna brought a rigour and a boldness to commercial poster design that set him apart from his contemporaries. He worked across a wide range of clients and categories, but his industrial and product advertising is among his most powerful work, and the Invicta Torino poster is a fine example of his ability to communicate commercial confidence through pure graphic force.

Invicta Torino and the Pride of Italian Industry

Turin in the 1920s was Italy’s great industrial city — the home of Fiat, the centre of the Italian automotive industry, and a place where manufacturing ambition and design sophistication went hand in hand. Invicta, as a Turin-based brand, drew on this heritage of quality and innovation, and Venna’s poster gives it a visual identity that speaks directly to the pride and confidence of the era.
