Description

Vini Calissano – Alberto Bianchi (1930–1940) | Vintage Italian Wine Advertising Poster

Between 1930 and 1940, at the height of the Italian Art Deco period, Alberto Bianchi created this magnificently theatrical advertising poster for Vini Calissano — one of Piedmont’s most celebrated wine producers, known for their vino, vino spumante, passito, vermouth, Chianti and Frascati. At the centre of the composition stands a dancer in green feathers and bold jewellery, exuding the electric glamour of the era’s great cabarets and music halls. The figure has all the vivacity and dramatic presence of the period’s greatest entertainers — a woman who commands the stage and the room in equal measure.

Alberto Bianchi and Italian Commercial Art

Alberto Bianchi was one of the most accomplished Italian commercial artists of the interwar period, working across advertising, illustration, and poster design with a fluency and style that placed him in the first rank of his contemporaries. His work for Calissano demonstrates his mastery of the period’s visual language: bold colour, confident figure work, and a composition that arrests the eye and holds it. The green feathers against the poster’s background create a colour relationship of real sophistication, while the figure’s pose and jewellery speak to the glamour of the era’s entertainment culture.

Calissano — A Piedmontese Wine Legacy

Founded in Alba in the heart of Piedmont, Calissano was one of the most respected names in Italian wine production, their range spanning everything from still wines and sparkling spumante to the rich dried-grape passito and the aromatic vermouth for which the region was celebrated. To commission a poster of this ambition and quality was a statement of the brand’s confidence and cultural aspiration — and Bianchi delivered magnificently.
